Project Background

The City of Newport News has engaged JLL, Kimley Horn, and Sports Facilities Companies to conduct a feasibility study for new sports and event assets in the Newport News community. Various sites are being considered for new facilities and the goal of the project is to add to the existing assets for the local residents while also having the ability to draw non-local visitation for youth sports tourism tournaments and events. The aim will be to have a centralized location where many events can take place both for the immediate community and surrounding region.

This collaborative effort signifies a significant milestone in the journey toward realizing the full potential of Newport News. In addition to leveraging the expertise of renowned firms in sports facility management, architectural design, and engineering and planning design, the initiative is committed to fostering community engagement throughout the planning process. This commitment involves various outreach efforts, including surveys, stakeholder discussions, and community meetings. By actively involving residents, local organizations, and other stakeholders, the project team aims to capture diverse perspectives and ensure that the future assets in Newport News truly reflect the needs and aspirations of the community. This inclusive approach not only enhances the quality and relevance of the proposed amenities but also strengthens community ownership and support for the project. Together, through collaborative planning and engagement, the potential new sports and event assets in Newport News can become a cherished asset that enriches the lives of its residents for years to come.
